Kerry Barrow
Kerry graduated the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) in 1999 with an honours degree in Physiotherapy. She first gained senior level experience working in private Physiotherapy practices and hospitals treating adults and children for orthopedic conditions, back and neck pain, poor posture and sports injuries. . Her love of working with the children under her care and their families led her to find her niche in Paediatric Physiotherapy. Kerry additionally then engaged in volunteer work for several months, helping children in the Alexandra township in South Africa who had Cerebral Palsy.
Kerry has been living in th UK since 2003, working in the NHS, the private sector and at The Bobath Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy. Kerry always dreamed of creating a place for parents and children to come to that was welcoming, gentle, friendly and supportive - that the children loved coming to and where the parents would know without doubt that they were getting the best specialist therapy for their little ones. She thus established Therapy4kids in January 2007 which is based in South West London. With her simple ethos that "...it's all about the kids...", the practice has quickly grown, primarily through word of mouth from clients and professional colleagues alike. This is a proud testimont to the standard of care we provide, and the trusting and close relationships we have built.
Kerry loves her work, and enjoys treating all babies and children, no matter their age or diagnosis. She has, however, developed a particular special interrest in the children who have more complex presentations. For this, Kerry works closely with her colleagies at Therapy4kids and elsewhere, and draws on her extensive training and experience, combining much of the following for a holistic allroach:
* Multidisciplinary skills (Besides Physiotherapy, drawing on the relevant components of Occupational Therapy, Sensory Integration therapy, Speech and Language therapy, Pilates)
* Refined and specialist handling techniques from her Bobath training
* Thorough musckulo-skeletal knowledge: understanding of posture, backs, necks, pelvic alignments, musculo-skeletal therapy, biomechanical alignments and orthopaedic conditions.
* Being a qualified assessor of babies’ movement patterns using Prechtl’s Qualitative Method
* Certified in the application of KinesioTex Taping. This can be used from birth to encourage different movement patterns as well as various joint positions.
Kerry is a firm proponent of 'early intervention', which involves beginning treatment as soon as possible rather than adopting a 'wait and see' policy. She has led Therapy4kids in a dedicated drive to follow-up 'at-risk' infants at her practice, and to reach families who are uncertain whether to . This is based on her clinical experience as well as current research,
Kerry is a member of :
Health Professions Council (HPC); Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP); The Organistaion of Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP); The British Association of Bobath Trained Therapists (BABTT).
She is also a committee member of the London branch of the special interest group, the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP).
A highly experienced therapist, Kerry is dedicated to helping children achieve their maximum potential. She enjoys bringing fun, graded challenge and success to her treatment sessions.
